The Black Bookstore Tour celebrates the cultural heritage of Black intellectuals and tastemakers through the lens of literary, performing, and visual arts. To demonstrate our power in the publishing industry and ensure that Black buying power is utilized to strengthen Black-owned businesses and the communities that they serve, we have made the conscious decision to transform bookstores into safe spaces for community and culture.
Heeding to the aesthetics of Tracy Sherrod's call to Blackout bestseller lists with Black voices, we aim to amply Black voices and stimulate a strong Black economy by combing resources and connecting Black publishing professionals with Black book clubs and creative communities.

String duo Unknown Lyric and poet Latajah to headline upcoming Scribes & Vibes LIVE on Main Street "Black Friday" concert hosted by P. Monae and Jackie P. at Black Dot Cultural Center & Bookstore in Lithonia. Visit http://blackbookstoretour.eventbrite.com to register for the performing arts concert.
The program, which includes a live music experience and poetry readings, takes place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Unless otherwise noted, ticket pricing only includes admission to the event and concert goers are welcome to participate in both the open mic and pop-up shop portions of the program.
The Bookstore & Chill series will continue with a celebration of the arts through live jazz, spoken word, and open mic performances. The Friday, November 25, 2022 installment focuses on the theme "Black Friday Celebration" in an effort to amplify Black voices and resound Tracy Sherrod's call to turn the Bestseller Lists Black. To participate in the Black Friday edition of the #BlackoutBestsellerList Challenge, readers are encouraged to:
- Purchase two books written by Black authors on Friday, November 25, 2022.
- Visit two Black-owned bookstores — either in person or online — on Friday, November 25, 2022 to Buy Black.
- Make it an all-black affair and wear black on Friday, November 25, 2022 to celebrate Black publishing power and gesture a Black Power salute to Black book clubs.
